Privacy
Your research deserves clear choices.
This notice describes the Fuentas website and app, including the services you choose to use from within the app.
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Fuentas is a native research and citation manager for Apple devices, offered by Iconic Horizon, Inc. The website introduces Fuentas and provides guides, support, privacy information, and beta-request instructions. The website does not include analytics, advertising, embedded third-party content, account creation, or a server-side contact form.
When you visit this website
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. When your browser requests a page, Cloudflare processes network and request information, such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information, and security events, to deliver the site and protect the service. The website does not set browser storage for analytics or advertising. Cloudflare’s operational and security processing is subject to its service terms and settings; this notice does not promise a specific edge-log retention period.
Links that open an email to support@fuentas.app or privacy@fuentas.app are handled by your email app. Information is sent only if you choose to send the message. Beta requests and support emails are handled by Iconic Horizon, Inc. through Google Workspace to respond and administer beta invitations. Messages are kept while needed for those purposes and deleted when no longer needed, subject to copies retained by the email service under its own policies.
Research you keep in Fuentas
Your references, publication metadata, notes, highlights, relationships, and attached files are your research content. Fuentas stores library content locally on your device. If you choose iCloud sync, the library can also sync through your private Apple iCloud account. Metadata and attachments transfer separately, and attachment transfer is selective. Apple processes iCloud data under its own service terms and privacy policy.
Fuentas does not provide a product account service. You can use a local library without connecting iCloud.
Imports, exports, and backups
When you import a file, Fuentas reads the file you select. When you export references or create a backup, Fuentas writes a copy to a destination you choose. Backup files are readable and are not newly password-encrypted by Fuentas. Their protection and availability depend on the destination and any security controls you apply there.
Scholarly lookups and PDF requests
When you start a scholarly lookup or citation search, Fuentas sends the identifiers or search terms needed to the selected scholarly services. DOI lookup through Unpaywall requires a contact email. Sharing that email with Crossref or OpenAlex is a separate opt-in. When you request a PDF from a result, your device contacts the selected source or publisher. Availability, access requirements, and licensing vary. Fuentas does not bypass paywalls.
Optional AI providers
AI is off unless you choose and configure a provider and start a task. Depending on your selection, processing may happen on device, through a local Ollama service, or through a cloud provider you configure. Before a cloud request, Fuentas asks permission to send selected research text, notes, and your question or context off device. The selected provider’s terms and privacy practices apply to its handling of that request. Fuentas does not supply cloud API access or pay provider charges.
Credentials and diagnostics
Provider keys are kept in the device’s Keychain. Diagnostics are previewed by you and copied, exported, or shared only through an action you choose; Fuentas does not automatically upload a support report. The default report omits research content and identifiers. An explicit option can include technical storage or library identifiers, so review a report before sharing it.
Retention and deletion
Library data remains until you or the relevant service removes it. Some research history and Recently Deleted items do not have automatic purge periods. Deleting content locally and its propagation through optional iCloud services can have different timing. Fuentas cannot set the retention period for scholarly providers, cloud AI providers, Apple services, or website security logs. Consult those providers’ policies for their service-side handling.
Questions or privacy requests
Contact privacy@fuentas.app. Please do not include sensitive research content in an initial request. Support questions can be sent to support@fuentas.app.
The app’s available settings and provider choices can change as Fuentas develops. We will update this notice when its data practices materially change.
