Workflow 02 · Fuentas guide

Add and import references

Fuentas gives you a review step before an import changes your library. Use it to catch duplicates, choose the records you want, and confirm what the source supplied.

Look up a source

Choose Look Up and search with a DOI, URL, arXiv identifier, PubMed identifier, ISBN, title, or pasted reference text. Review the returned record because metadata coverage and formatting vary between sources.

  • Compare the title, authors, year, and publication details with the source you have.
  • Use title search when you do not have a stable identifier.
  • A lookup may contact the scholarly service needed to resolve your query.

Import files in a preview

Choose Import to bring in a PDF or a citation file. Fuentas supports BibTeX, RIS, and CSL JSON. The preview lets you inspect recognized records and possible matches before committing them.

  • Select the records you want to add.
  • Review possible duplicates and any fields that need attention.
  • Commit only when the preview reflects the references you intend to keep.

Cancel safely

If the preview is incomplete or the matches are unclear, cancel and revisit the file or source. Cancel leaves the library unchanged. Keep the original file so you can try again after correcting it.
